Have you ever heard of constraint theory, James? No. But basically what he's found in his research is that when you make the goal enormously bigger, it weeds out all the noise. And so having a higher goal actually weeds out most of the stuff that doesn't matter and it simplifies and helps you be a lot more honest about the few things that might. It's very interesting. This is related to like the 80-20 rule - focus on doing the 20% that gets you 80% of the value.
