The Importance of Being Up Front

David Walliams is one of Britain's best-loved authors. His storytelling has inspired many children to pick up a book for the first time, improving literacy amongst hard-to-reach audiences. But HarperCollins are ultimately responsible for publishing his books. To me, they seem more committed to protecting their golden goose than really talking about the things that matter. And it feels short-sighted. They can try to subtly make changes and pretend there's no issue. But like Puffin and the Rolldahl Story Company found out, sometimes it's best to be up front. Particularly when the proof is there, in black and white, for everyone to read.
