The Importance of Attitude in Education

I think people's attitudes towards children have improved. I think school is much less coercive. Even when we were kids, it would have been very common for a teacher to bring a kid in front of the class and give him a paddling or something like that. Now they realize you can't just lecture people because there's no passive learning. It's not as clear to me that it's improved through the science following scientific studies.
