The Importance of Sleep for Memory

Madaffanil: I'd be really worried about student self-medicating with something like that and trying to stay awake for days on end or weeks on end. We know that sleep is absolutely vital because that's when your memories get stored for the long term in the cortex, the kind of outer layer of the brain. If you're not sleeping, you might be taking in lots of information, but it won't actually be being stored thoroughly. So yeah, it definitely using it to replace sleep is a really bad idea.
