"I grew up just outside of new york city, and the end of my block was the bay. And that was the place that i would walk down to whenever i was struggling," he says. "And there was something profound about simply being in a natural environment that took me back to a state of instant repose and calm." In japan, certain forests are designated as shinrin yoku forest, which translates roughly to forest bathing. The effect is so well accepted now ther science has measured this effect of simply walking in these big, old growth forests.
