The Risk of Investing in the S&P 500

The S&P 500 that many people believe really believe will give somewhere between a 9 and an 11% compound rate of return for the long term. Over the last 20 years have only made a little over 6%. What do you make out of that? Do we kick the bum out or do we keep the bum in in the hopes that the next 20 years will be better? I don't know. But we do know this, that value did better than the S&P500 over the last 20year period. By a spread of about 4%, no, maybe it didn't make 12% or 15% over that 20 year period.
