The Importance of the Week in the 19th Century
Hinkin identifies a number of different influences that may have led to the increased salience of the week in the 19th century. The trend toward what he calls stock-taking, I think a sort of accounting of one's affairs and one's life could be for business or personal reasons. He also points to schools as possibly playing a role in cementing weekly routines. But ultimately, Hinkin identifies as maybe the main contributor to the increasing importance of the week as an organizing principle for life.
