John Westwick: A Monk's Life
John of Westwick was a monk at St. Albans, one of the richest abbeys in medieval England. He went on failed Bishops Crusade to Flanders during Hundred Years' War. In 1393 he designed an astronomical instrument called Equetry of the Planets which exists in Cambridge. A Norwegian scholar has identified his handwriting in another manuscript as that of Richard of Wallingford who was Abbot of Saint Albans.
