The 10th of January, 49 BC, was the morning of the famous Rubicon Crossing. Caesar came to Rome with 300 cavalry and 5,000 infantry. He welcomed the allegiance of the Italian towns and garrisons as they proclaimed him imporator. The common people flocked to his side. But in his faction, rather than giving battle, could not raise enough troops to feel confident in their resistance and fled the city.
