Forest Finn was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 1988 and told he had about one year left to live. He came up with a plan to leave the planet on his own terms, but unforeseen circumstances prevented him from sticking to this plan. 20 years later, Finn still enjoyed the idea of a treasure hunt, but this time he would use it as a way to encourage people to get off their couches and enjoy nature.
