Ulysses and Andrew's Battle Plans

Confederate commanders John Floyd, Gideon Pillow and Simon Bolivar Buckner position almost all of their men to punch a hole in the right side of Ulysses' lines. The half-frozen, surprised Union line buckles and Confederates strain through the hole in their lines. Nearly 1,000 Yankees and rebels have lost their lives in the fight. With this hard-won Confederate surrender, Ulysses gets a new nickname: "Uncle Sam Grant"
