Investing on the Stock Market and Using the Returns to Fund Something

The idea of creating a fund where you invest on the stock market and use the returns to fund something is familiar to me as someone who works in Queensland politics. And they consistently call it their whatever $2 billion housing fund, when actually it's not that at all. It just goes to show how deeply neoliberal our politics are. This idea of investing on the free market and relying on capital returns and interest on existing wealth or investments to fund something instead of just directly funding funding something. That in itself is so dystopian it's so fucking dishonest and it is wild that up until now no one has called them out for this.
