Socrates - Is He a Sophist?

Socrates is one of the most strange and eccentric people you'll ever meet. He's not a dogmatist as it seems to me he doesn't, his arguments with people end up saying oh, crikey we thought we knew something about whatever the question is. Why does it matter that we should do it by questioning people rather than just by somebody sitting down and spouting stuff? I think for the same reasons I think that the way he thinks philosophy is done is completely captivating.
