Reddit is getting massively scraped by machine learning algorithms. It's API is getting hit really hard because Reddit is a very organized website if you think about it. And so rather than entering into some sort of contract or changing its terms of servicing, like AI large language models can't scrape our website without paying us. They were like pretty much carve outs for everyone who's using the API for most any reason but for they now have to pay them.
