Middle and upper class people, especially married couples, could usually find a doctor who was willing to provide them with contraception in spite of the law. But poor people who didn't have these kinds of resources often could not. People of color working within their own communities as doctors were generally at a lot more risk than white doctors were. That was something people had to take into account when deciding whether to try to get around the law.
