Delegating Proof of Stake

Voting and delegated proof of stake, this is another point where I'm not clear. Like I understand this idea that you have tokens, you delegate them towards somebody else who can then stake a high enough amount to be a validator. But what I'm notclear on is like, is that an actual vote? Is this just something you actually don't know where that exists? Yeah, so it depends on the implementation.
