Aquinas' Definition of Matter as Pure Potency
Aquinas would have spoken of the most basic elements in his own era of medieval science. Matter considered as pure potency is not something formal at all, having any determination whatsoever. Any given physical thing can be subject to change by another acting upon it due to its material physical body.
