In late february, russia was invaded and sweeping sanctions were imposed. In the weeks following the sanctions, oil markets dislocated violently to the upside. One of the big drivers of inflation over the last six months has been increases in the global cost of oil. Crude oil pricing affects the cost of essentially everything in modern economies. This year, the biden administration claimed that more than half of the inflation was due to the rising oil price.
