Romanticism - A Cultural Movement of the 19th Century
Romanticism was a cultural movement that reshaped art, music, literature and philosophy over the course of the 19th century. It was in many ways a direct reaction against the previous age of enlightenment which centered on rationalism and reason as well as industry with its repetitive motions and mechanization. Romanticism was about the exact opposite, the imagination, subjectivity and emotions and nostalgia got absorbed into the movement and turned into a literary sensibility to help express the angst of the period.
