The author's parents encouraged her to get as far as she could with education. "I never felt like it had to connect with life," he says of his academic upbringing. His dad wanted him to be an architect, but that didn't work out so well for him. He learned how to have fun in his late 20s and 30s after a series of near-fatal accidents.
