Is the Art Auction Industry Compliant With Trade Sanctions?
Graham Bonham Carter was working for Oleg Derrypaska and tried to pass off the artworks as his own. The auction house in New York raised a Red flag when they found out that it had been purchased from Under the name of a shell company more than 10 years ago. So have all the major auction houses cooperated with subpoenas and requests for information? When I went to the auction houses last week most of them said yes we do cooperate with law enforcement when they ask, says John Defterios.
