There's a viral video that you must have seen on YouTube about which kind of depicts a situation in which there are a group of friends in Japan and only one of the friends can ethnically pass as Japanese. Because they don't look Japanese the waitress just refuses to accept that they could possibly be speaking Japanese. I think what happens is every once in a while there will be the odd semi-racist Japanese person who is like this.
