There were other flags that were flown by American patriots at the time. The don't tread on me flag is another flag that uses and some people have adopted it today to meet other things. Gadson's flag features this impossibly coiled and I guess ready to strike rattlesnake with 13 rattles representing the original colonies. And it's sometimes used in modern day by conservative parties to harken back, I guess to an era when the country was smaller or something.
