The Differences Between Machin and Voss
Lane: I believe that when you take a look at Machin's writings, and I think I can prove this, is that he is using a semicolon in ways in modern usage. We just do not use it. Camden: He has about over two semicolons per page. And so here is Machin on Jane Austen levels or Herman Melville levels. Lane: There's nothing more exciting than having someone reading a passage and pointing out the punctuation.
