In the 8th century BC, there was a really bad climate from about 1,200 BC to about 800 BC. The Jewish laws were taken word for word from the Babylonian practice. And when gradually you had in this dark age sort of warlords or mafia families taking over local districts and local cities. Greece and Rome were very different environments from the Near East.
