Self-Affirmation Theory

There's a thing called self affirmation theory which is basically by realizing that there are many parts to yourself that you aren't just one thing. So for example if somebody challenges your political beliefs or gives you some information which goes against your political ideology then it's okay because they still have a kind of self-concept related to everything else. I've been interested in this idea of the self and how the self and identity is interwoven in people's learning and both in school and in other contexts as well.
