The Moral Problem With the Refugee Convention

I take the point, but these people on the boats across the channel are coming from France. How can they possibly be refugees according to the definition of the refugee convention? Well, they travel through France to get here, but there can be many reasons why one particular country rather than another is an appropriate one for someone to make a new life. No, but they're coming here from France. They are not, therefore, refugees. Why don't you say they should stay in France or some other country through which they have traveled? I think it's important for each country to take its share of the challenge of helping to cope with refugees.
