In the first kentucky derby in 18 75, 13 out of 15 jockeys were black. The harassment got so bad that one rider left the country to become a racing super star in russia. Between 19 21 and the year two thousand not a single black jockey even raced in the derby. So the next time you think of horse racing, think about the black jockes that blazed the trail back in those early days. Won't just think of sea biscuit or the guy who rode sea biscuit, or how much money you lost by not betting on sea biscuit.
