How Do You Get People to See You as a Writer?

Ali, you came up on this performing and production end. How do you translate that to writing? I want to position myself more for those kinds of gigs. Do you still have directing ambitions or is it just writing from here on out in a feature-director role? They didn't doubt me immediately because I'm working with the studio. And when I said I wanted to direct it, they were supportive right away.
