The first part of the book is called how sound works. The brain moves very quickly, and it has to convert moving molecules of air pressure into electric signals. And so much of what happens, not only enters the ear, but it's really the brain that makes a lot of sense of the sound. So these faders really reflect who we are in terms of our life an sound.
We undervalue our sense of hearing and we under-appreciate the impact sweet sounds and disturbing noises have on our well-being. Neuroscientist Nina Kraus of Northwestern University talks about her book, Of Sound Mind. Kraus argues that our listening affects our minds and brains in ways we ignore at our peril.
