The American Dream Ethos
Fletcher has this ethos of, like he's not necessarily even looking for the person who has the best ability to start with. He sees himself as seeing someone as a kind of diamond in the rough, but who has drive. Persistence and drive is also the counterforce that is necessary because fletcher believes that greatness comes from suffering. And so maybe in that sense, that's why he wants some one with the drive, because he knows then he can it suffering without that person becoming a dishardened or just literally broken by the process of generating greatness.
