Is There a Better Way to Make Better Recommendations?

A lot of the things we were scared of turn out to be not something that these companies are even capable of. Facebook has like a couple dozen or maybe a hundred categories that they segregate people into come on this is the best you can do with all that data this is all you can do surely you can do better. There's still potential for these systems to do good rather than just be a source of advertising.
