Amos was greeted by the Israelite establishment, with the same enthusiasm as a poor coast that a bar mitzvah. The books short nine chapters are a litany of doom. In the last half of chapter 9, at the very end of the book, the prophet offers hope. "I will not wholly wipe out the house of Jacob declares Yave"
