An experienced designer will be able to take off your amateur author kind of assessments of the covers and from that get a sense of something that should go into the cover. The power of a good visual is very powerful. But of course, you may not always love what they come up with. Most desires will give you a couple of worlds and won't settle it down too much at the start. It can be exploratory and stuff at the beginning. So there's room to change things. I think as an indie also one of the perks of the job is that you love your covers. They have to work commercially, but you also have to like them.
