The Importance of Having a Secondary Goal

On-siding routes I think is actually the food of mastery. There's a lot to be gained when you drop your rope at the base of something you've never touched before and have no data on other than the chalk on the route let's say. The best climbers out there at on-siding some of the pros like an Alex Honnold who can just drop his rope  at the base of almost anything reasonable, that shows real mastery.
