The Ancient Pentagram Symbol

In ancient Sumeria, people drew these with cuneiform. That was done to symbolize the regions of the universe. So oddly, they had kind of an interstellar meaning to it. And so one thing they bothered to do is pentagrams, even though that's relatively complicated if you just have a stick and you're working with clay.
