The body is without a doubt the most contested place in Christian spirituality. Gnosticism, predominantly a 2nd century movement centered around an embodied nature to Jesus and his teachings, was the first great theological tension. How did God make my body in his image? What strains of deception got into my body with the serpent's lie? And how do I experience that redemption now, even as I wait its fullness in his return?
