The University in the Modern Era

Our english word university comes from the latin universitas. In the middle ages, in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, when the first universities formed, that word universitas was used for all kinds of bodies and groups. Later in the modern era, we've dropped the rest of the phrase, and now the meaning of the word university has been narrowed down to bas just meanin an academic and incorporated, academic school.
