The Story of Latasha Harlands
Latasha Harlands went to Empire Liquor Market and Delhi on South Figaro Street, near her home in South Central L.A. The store was owned by Korean immigrant Billy Hong Kydoo and his wife Soon Jadoo. She assumed that Harlands was stealing the juice and because there was a language barrier, the 51-year-old woman was unable to understand when Harlands tried to explain that she was planning to pay for it. So what happened 13 days after the Rodney King beating was another flashpoint for African-Americans in South CentralL.A.
