The Two Big Heroes of the Scots
The kingdom of scotland was generally able to maintain independence, but there were several attempts by the english to annex and claim the scottish throne. The big heroes and sort of national symbols that emerged from these wars were first william wallace, who decided to try to overthrow English rule. After about 13 20 parthow they were able to succeed is that they finagled the support of the catholic church as an independent country. In the 14 hundreds, a new dynasty came to the throne called the stuarts. They ended up being enormously important, both in scotland and really for world history.
