The Reverend Mullen's Life
"I was a boy in search of that kind of person in my life and he recognized me as somebody who might need that," says the author. "When he after killed himself, that was like my world came to an end." The writer's parents split up when he was eight years old. He moved with his mother into a three-story Tudor revival on a leafy street near Yale University.
