Shakespeare's Comedy Versus His Tragedies

Shakespeare's plays were divided into genres with the compilation of the first folio in 1623, that's seven years after his death. The genres were comedies, histories and tragedies. In the Elizabethan and Jacobian theatre, scenes weren't as neatly divided as they would be today. There was no such ding as an intermission and the plays went at breakneck speed.
