The Draugr were said to be a lot like you and me, physical and corporeal. But perhaps also stronger and a whole lot meaner. The Viking era Scandinavians believed in an afterlife, just not a heavenly one. You never knew what you were going to get, but it was almost always guaranteed to be bad. A Draugr might stomp around on the roof of your house or kill your livestock. Worse yet, it might kill you and then drink your blood.
