Evangelicals form a powerful bloc in many of the region's parliaments. Some politicians have come unstuck, trying to join in the TikTok wave. Nearly 60% of Latin Americans still consider themselves Roman Catholics. About half identify as left-wing, with radical liberation theology playing a part.
