The American Treasury Market - It's Gigantic
In two thousand and eight, what blew up were private mortgages. And then the balance sheets of the investment banks who'd engaged in this incredibly hih risk strategy for holding big portfolios of private mortgages,. by very short turn boring. So they experienced a gigantic bank run. What we saw in 20 20 was, in a sense, even scarie because the market that became unstable and then basically just stopped functioning was not the market for private debt, but the market for government debt.
