The Importance of Context in Software Development

I was helping a startup last year. They had some terrible database performance. And their solution, which honestly wasn't a terrible solution in the long term but for this problem it was overkill. We ended up postponing that rewrite, the data layer rewrite for months. The way I see it is better to read back end engineering and understand what's going on with your project so you don't have to worry as much about design patterns.
