The Atlantic Forest in Brazil, Mata Tlinghka

The Atlantic forest, Mata Tlinghka, how we call it in Portuguese, is this large swath of tropical and subtropical rainforest that exists in Brazil. Originally, there's estimates that the area of the Atlantic forest when the Portuguese first arrived in Brazil in the 16th century, covered over 600 square miles. Over 70% of Brazilian population still lives in areas that used to be covered by the Atlantic forest. Today, most of the forest is gone. There's only a 75% left and divided into small fragments.
