Humiliation in the Media Is a Potential Catalyst of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
In the DSM-5, which is used to determine whether somebody has post-traumatic stress disorder, they don't consider that being humiliated in the media or really any experience in the media as a potential catalyst of PTSD. But I argue that it should be included because being humiliated and publicly shamed and misrepresented are all traumatic experiences. Humiliation is when you feel unfairly demeaned. It's different than just being embarrassed because when you're embarrassed, it's not a traumatic experience.
