The Differences Between Locke and Suarez on the Level of Autonomy
I think that Locke puts a pretty heavy thumb on the scale in terms of exploitation and proto-industrialization. The industrial revolution happened to happen but certainly turning vast wilds into organized agricultural fields, I think that's a big deal for Locke. Turning to the question of flourishing, I think there'd be a holistic look. On the one hand, utility in terms of extracting resources, putting them to work, developing things is a concern for the Thomas tradition. And so is the flourishing of everybody involved.
