The Cognitive Dissonance of Pornography

The term moral incongruence is used to describe the feeling you get when your beliefs and actions don't line up. It's similar to cognitive dissonance, where people have two things that are in conflict with one another. People experience distress when how they want to think about themselves and how they're actually acting do not line up. For some people, addiction labeling can alleviate that internal distress.
